ABOUT

Mrs. Pam

In my classroom, you will see students’ binders chock full of the nuts and bolts of literary language, grammar as they study and break down contemporary and ancient texts.

Or, you may see students learning polyrhythms as they study the music that exemplifies a literary era or geographical location.

Professional

Having taught for over 20 years in a variety of settings (rural, urban and affluent) from Georgia to California, I currently teach at the Ron Clark Academy in Southeast Atlanta. To this high energy campus, I bring my special blend of cultural awareness and literature and composition to a population of students representing the span of the African diaspora while serving as a role model of cultural excellence to all who enters RCA’s doors -students, visiting educators and co-workers.

Early Life

Born in Clarksdale, MS as the granddaughter, daughter, sibling and niece of educators, it is easy to see from whence my passion for education stems. HBCU graduates, my parents precipitated my love for learning. My father taught history and my mother taught vocal and choral music for over 40 years and much of it rubbed off on me. I fondly remember my childhood influences and as a result, I infuse music, history and art into my   literature and writing lessons.

Education

I earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Spelman College, and I earned a master’s degree in Secondary Education from University of Phoenix but life taught me a whole lot more than any school building. Being autodidactic, I read at least 4 books at a time…always. I hold a valid teaching certification for 6-12 English language Arts and have been certified to teach Advanced Placement courses. There are 20 or more tabs open on my computer right now and I am a serial list maker. I learn something new daily and I love it!
